Walnutport girl, 6
to play in 'Tommy’

A 6-year-old Walnutport girl has
been chosen to play Tommy Tot,
the deaf, dumb and blind boy who

becomes a pinball wizard and gu-
ru, in the Broadway production of
the new “Tommy.”

Krysta Macalush, who last year
starred as Molly in “Annie” at the
Pennsylvania Playhouse, learned
Tuesday she will be the young lead
in the latest adaptation of Pete
Townshend and the Who’s 1969
rock Opera. Scripted by Townshend
and director Des McAnuff, who
premiered the musical last year at
his La Jolla(Calif.)P1ayhouse, the
musical is scheduled to open in
March at the St. James Theatre in
Manhattan.

Macalush has appeared in news-
paper clothing ads, industrial films
and benefits for a house for par-
ents of sick children. According to
her brother Eric, she auditioned
for “Tommy” in December and was
called back six times. She will be-
gin rehearsing Feb. 8.
