A ‘Who’ reunion,

.5.

but in name only

Though original members of the Who shared
the stage of Carnegie Hall Wednesday, the leg.
endary rock group never really reunited in Dal-
trey Sings To wnsb end: A Celebra tion.

Pete Townshend and John Entwistle were
there to celebrate Roger Daltrey's 50th birthday,
airing on payoper-view Saturday. But they either
had‘jiOlo turns or duets with Daltrey, never
coming together until "Join Together,” when

other guests were onstage.
Guests included Lou Reed, the Spin Doctors,

Alice Cooper (singing "I’m a Boy”) and Pearl
Jam’s Eddie Vedder. The 60-member Juilliard
Orchestra joined Daltrey’s six-piece hand. There
was suspense, such as when Sinead O’Connor

was booed. There was goofiness; as she, Daltrey
and the Chieftains did "Teenage Wasteland.”

But Who didn’t happen, leaving short a night
that promised everything.
