1964 – The Detours play the Goldhawk Social Club in Shepherd’s Bush opening for The Kinks

1967 – “La La La Lies” enters Sweden’s Kv√§llstoppen sales chart, peaking at #17.

1969 – The Who play the Top Rank in Bath for a Bath University Social

1969 – The Who record the final studio version of “Pinball Wizard” at Morgan Studios in London

1971 – Nik Cohn interviews Pete in The New York Times: “The Who, from Tommy to Bobby”. Pete describes the plot of The Who’s new science fiction movie that is now called “Bobby.” Universal Pictures is bankrolling the film that should begin shooting that summer.

1975 – John and his solo band Ox release a single in Europe from their forthcoming album. “Mad Dog,” the album’s title song, backed with “Cell Number 7,” a song about The Who’s 1973 Montreal arrest, fails to chart and is denounced by Colin Irwin in Melody Maker as “the bore of the week.”

1981 – The Who play The Brighton Centre in Brighton, East Sussex

1995 – The Who were scheduled to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame but it is cancelled when they say they cannot be there.

1997 – A British Airways Concorde jet carrying Pete and Elton John from London to New York makes an emergency landing in Halifax after the craft develops engine trouble. Pete says it was the second time he’d been on the supersonic jet when it developed engine trouble and he won’t be flying it again.

1999 – The Times of London reports that the BBC has commissioned Pete Townshend to complete his rock opera Lifehouse for presentation as part of Britain’s Millennial celebrations.

2002 – The Who play the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington Gore, London

2010 – The Who play the Super Bowl 44 halftime show at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida
