1965 – The Who pre-tape an appearance on Radio Luxembourg’s Ready Steady Radio! at The Marquee

1966 – The Who play the Flamingo Club in Redruth, Cornwall

1967 – The BBC launches a new legal radio station, Radio One, seeking to take the place of the pirates.

1968 – The Who play the Orlando Sports Stadium in Orlando, Florida

1968 – The Who release their second U.S. single of the year, “Magic Bus” backed with the year-old recording “Someone’s Coming.” No. 25 is as high as it gets in the Billboard charts but it goes up to #10 in Cash Box. On the same day, Billboard magazine carries an ad for Magic Bus

1969 – The Who play the Redcar Jazz Club at the Coatham Hotel in Redcar, Yorkshire

1973 – Yvonne Elliman’s cover of “I Can’t Explain,” with lead guitar by Pete, is released as a single in the U.K. backed with “Hawaii.” It fails to chart at the time but succeeds when it is sampled by DJ Fatboy Slim for his 1997 hit “Going Out of My Head”.

1974 – Pete attends a party thrown by Mick Jagger with guests Rod Stewart, Debbie Reynolds, Bryan Ferry and Mama Cass

1984 – Pete and Eric Clapton attend the premiere of Prince’s movie Purple Rain in London. Prince’s use of autobiographical elements within a musical film inspires Pete to inject himself into his planned White City movie

1989 – The Who play the Carter–Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina

1995 – Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band, featuring John Entwistle on bass, play the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, Connecticut

1999 – The John Entwistle Band play Upstairs at Nick’s in Philadelphia

2001 – “A Walk Down Abbey Road: A Tribute To The Beatles” featuring John on bass play the Center For Performing Arts in Sewell, New Jersey

2002 – The Who play the Tweeter Center at the Waterfront in Camden, New Jersey

2002 – The Sex Pistols perform an anti-jubilee concert in South London. They dedicate the song “Substitute” to the memory of John Entwistle. You can watch it on YouTube here

2004 – The Who arrive in Sydney, Australia ahead of the Australian leg of their world tour

2006 – The Who play the Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid in Madrid, Spain

2007 – Si Hayden releases his album Steel Roots featuring a instrumental called “Hats Off to Pete Townshend”
